San Simeon, CA Party

Welcome my friends from Europe, Australia, Austria, and Japan; I have cottages waiting for you since your early arrival due to the time differences from US time. For those of you that have arrived later in the day I also welcome you.

I know you are tired from your long journey and need some rest, feel free to make yourselves at home after I acquaint you with the castle and its grounds. The cast and crew who live in the states are expected to arrive after 2:00 pm EST.

Welcome my esteemed cast/crew of CCSI II! I am happy to see that all of you arrived safely after your long flights from home and trust that you found your plane ride to be most satisfactory.

Asta arriving at the airport in California.

Providing flights on one of my private jets kept you from having to stand in the long lines at the airport to board the plane and, after you landed, having to deal with finding your luggage. I trust that your breath was taken away as you approached the castle from the private helicopter that brought you up here, a great photo opportunity right outside your window.

The Hearst Castle is located in the Santa Lucia Mountains, 1,600 ft high, near San Simeon and provides its guests with magnificent views of San Luis Obispo County and the Pacific Ocean.

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean from the terrace.

In the castle there are 165 rooms and 127 acres of gardens, terraces, and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. The Hearst Castle is famous not only for its architecture and art collection but for its gardens. Many social gatherings of famous and influential guests took place in the 1920's, 30's, and 40's at William Randolph Hearst's ranch. Guests included President Calvin Coolidge, Winston Churchill, George Bernard Shaw, Charles Lindbergh, Charlie Chaplin, and a diverse array of guests from show business and the publishing industries.

Hearst Castle guest cottages.

Your luggage has been taken to a guest cottage that has been assigned to you. Shortly after you landed you were handed an envelope by the stewardess. Inside this envelope there are directions to the cottages along with the key to your room. (Your room number is on the key.) You may want to freshen up or take a quick nap before you join those who have already gathered inside.

As my guest today you are invited to take advantage of the beautiful gardens, walking paths, and any of the swimming pools. The pool you saw when you flew over in the helicopter is the Neptune Pool.

Daisy making a splash at the cast party.

The final version of this pool as it stands today is 104' long, 58' wide and 95' wide at alcove. It is 3.5' -10' deep and holds 345,000 gallons of water. Light-veined Vermont marble decorates the pool and colonnades, the latter bearing four 17th-century Italian bas-reliefs. As you stroll down by the Neptune Pool you will see the stunning beauty of the valleys that surround you below on three sides and the Pacific Ocean beyond.

The Roman Pool is a tiled indoor pool decorated with eight statues of Roman gods, goddesses, and heroes. Opus and Roscoe, who traveled from Italy, will be especially interested to know that the mosaic tiled patterns were inspired by mosaics found in the 5th Century Mausoleum of Galla Placidia in Ravenna, Italy. The Roman Pool is decorated from ceiling to floor with 1" square mosaic tiles. These glass tiles are clear with fused gold inside. The intense colors and shimmering gold of the tiles combine to create a breathtaking effect. By the Roman Pool are eight marble statues carved by Carlo Freter in Pietrasanta, Italy starting in 1930. I know most of you here do not care for the water but but pool areas are a must-see.

Gothic Study.

I will leave you at this point to tour around the castle, gardens or head over to your cottage for awhile.

Hor dourves and cocktails are set up in the Assembly Room; feel free to take your food and drink back to your cottage or with you as you tour from room to room. As you enter a new room in the castle be sure to peruse and enjoy the magnificent beauty that surrounds you.

Gorgeous place! Never been anywhere like this before! I'll make sure I'm dressed for dinner. The pools are for lounging around only; I would rather not get wet, not now, not ever!

Wish Jan and the rest of the family could be here too, but I know she's busy and the rest of the Funny Farm are keeping her in line.

We have been having such a great time getting to know our new friend Percey. Thank goodness that Roscoe has connections. He knows a cat who knows a cat who knows Roberto Cavalli's dog. Well we were hooked up with some great outfits thanks to these friends. Even better.... When Roberto Cavalli found out that Roscoe is a bit clumsy, he tossed in an extra jacket just "in case". It was a perfect fit for Percey!

We don't mean to be rude, but we have just spent the past few hours in the wine cellar with Pearcy discussing wine.

Maybe we all better go get something to eat now...

Too much wine plus not enough food = CRAZY CATS!

Hi to everyone who came while we were in the cellar!

Opus & Roscoe! Glad to see you both here too.

And Daisy..., WOW girl, in a bikini... :)

Hi to all!! We talk later, first we like something to drink...

Pip pip I made it! Hello, Daaaaahlings!!!! Sassy, this is a beautiful place for a party! I had such a terrible time with dial-up, I thought I'd never make it, but then, a lady never arrives on time in showbiz!

Fabulous spread (my human loves the wine cellar). I think I shall lie on the terrace and take in the breathtaking view and sniff the fresh air!

Cheers, everyone!

This wine cellar is indeed magnificent, and I have just learned that W R Hearst planned them very meticulously, with certain temperature controls, etc., for each type of wine and spirit's peculiarities, and so that none of the cellars continued into the next; they were each separate to guard against fire damage and theft! In stock in the 20's were the finest wines and spirits from France and Germany!

Jan's Farm-I already let Jan know that Percy is fine and having a blast. Most helpful up here at the party.

Bonnie-I am so glad that ya are here, I know Victory will be OK traveling even though the weather is bad is places. My pilots have a special thingie in their jets that allow them to travel with no problems.

Momo & Pinot so glad that ya a here, I do have a nanny that will help watch your little bro so ya can not worry about anything.

PB&J-Yes it is beautiful up here, the mom and dad of the house have been out there too a long time ago, it is a magnificant place.

Percy-Ya are more than welcome. I did let Jan know that ya are havin a good time. She is such a worry wart, but that is a good thing.

Opus & Roscoe-Thanks for helpin Percy out. I cannot wait to see him in his Italian clothes tomorrow for dinner. I am glad that ya three have been down in the wine cellar cause I had been told that the paid staff workin the party were gettin into things. Glad ya three were down there to keep an eye on things. And specking of Italian clothes, thank you so much for brining my outfit from Italy, I am so happy with it and feel like a million dollars. Ya two are such caring sweeties.
I think everyone has gone back to their cottage to chance for dinner. That will be posted about tomorrow, I am saying it is all one day though, ya can do that in the bloggin world.

Karl & Ruis-Glad ya are here, did ya notice I put ya in cottages next to each other. Think I will pass on those photos, ha, ha, ha.

Charlie-So glad ya made it, I checked in with your mom but just missed ya. Have a good time, Momo cat and Momo doggie along with Pinot have been looking for ya. Have a good time. Don't forget to check out the wine cellar too, some good wines to go with the meats. I didn't know that ya know so much about the wine cellar, that was interesting.

i am going to check on the other guests now as it is nearing the dinner hour.

Karl and Ruis said...

You look so breathtaking tonight, Sassy! And we had heard Little Productions is one of the best, but this is much more... Working with you, everything you do for your crew and cast..., it is overwhelming!!

Islay said...

Great to see you, Sassy - and I'm having a wonderful time! I will tell my mum how good you've been to me; I know she will be very grateful! (we just had to restart this PC for the fourth time!)

Jan, pardon me, it was most likely me hiccupping and hacking - I tend to do that a lot in my old age; drives my mum crazy, but she understands!

Victor - I'm told that, whilst California is now a wine-growing centre, in the 20's the vinyards were not yet prolific enough around San Simeon, and Heart preferred the European vintages. However, there are now a number of decent and venerable Californian wines that are likely in the cellar - let's go check it out!

I must say it again: what an absolutely divine place for a party, and a beautiful way for us all to come together in the midst of making this next episode of CCSI!

I have found a magnum of Champagne here in the cellar - Drappier, the kind preferred by Charles de Gaulle - and I would like everyone to fill their glasses and raise them to our kind and generous hostess, Sassy, in gratitude and appreciation for throwing a truly magnificent party for us all!

Cin cin!

Asta-I am so glad ya have taken advantage of all that the Hearst Castle has to offer. I also know that tye Italian boys (Opus & Roscoe) know a lot about fine wines. Listen carefully to what they have to say.

Bogdan-How nice of ya to drop by, it is always good to meet somecat new. I will visit more with ya when these crazy holidays are over and the CCSI II show is as they say in the can. Please stay and join us for dinner.

Debra-I don't think ya embarrassed Gemini, but I do want to know what ya did that ya thought ya might have??

Opus & Roscoe-Yes that darn jet lag is a problem, it is bad enough traveling but that six hours difference sure makes a difference. Just take advantage of your cottage and rest when ya need to. I also want to say how handsome both of ya look all dressed up. As the mom of the house says "we sure do clean up good, huh", ha, ha, ha. So glad ya are here.
